BALTIMORE — The Board of Education honored 24 teachers on Tuesday. Those teachers have been named 2019-2020 Local District Teachers of the Year.

"Teaching is a tough profession," said Michael Phillips, from the State Board of Education. "It is something that should be recognized. It is something that should be incentivized, and so we want to make sure that we are surrounding all of the teachers in Maryland with the support that they need and also recognizing their excellence as they teach in excellence."

All of the teachers will compete for Maryland and National Teacher of the Year.

In the past, three Maryland teachers were named National Teacher of the Year, and three additional candidates were named National Finalists.
