A woman was in the right place at the right time Labor Day weekend as she rushed to save a boy in Lake Michigan.

Sherri Talcott is a former lifeguard and alert boater who happened to be walking along the lake's beach when she noticed an 11-year-old boy struggling to swim. While a man named John stayed ashore recording the rescue, Talcott grabbed a life jacket, jumped into the rough waters and paddled to the boy and his step-father.

Talcott said the boy was doing well treading water, but his step-dad was in shock and had trouble staying above the water.

"We had waves going over the top of us. I just said keep holding onto the jacket. We're good. Keep holding on to it," Talcott said.

All three were holding onto the life jacket when a boater pulled up and tossed another life jacket into the water. Then, the boaters extended a pole and pulled Talcott, the step-dad and the 11-year-old boy onto the boat.

The boy and the father were okay after the ordeal. As for the the video, the man who shot it is back in Indiana. He put together a video of the rescue to teach others about water safety.
