HANOVER, Md. — WMAR-2 News is committed to improving the lives of Veterans in Maryland by giving light to their stories, struggles and triumphs. Every week a local veteran will be featured in our Veteran Spotlight contest.

This week's honoree is Chyrdonna Dean of Hanover. Dean served in the United States Army for 22 years. She started her military career during the Vietnam era and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1997.

From there, she went on to work for the federal government and, after retirement, published a book about her experiences working for the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection and the Equal Employment Opportunity Office

Her daughter nominated her for this award because she is extremely proud of her mother's accomplishments and says she's excited to see what she'll succeed in next.
