Posted
Maryland fire officials say a 38-year-old woman has died after a fire at a Garrett County home.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal announced in a news release Friday that the woman called 911 to report the fire in the home on Rock Lodge Road in Accident.  Officials say the first firefighters on the scene found the woman unconscious on the floor of a bedroom in the one-story home. She was taken to Garrett Memorial Hospital, where officials say she was pronounced dead from heavy smoke inhalation.

Officials say it took firefighters about 10 minutes to control the fire that was contained to the living room. Smoke alarms were operating at the time.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire and confirm the cause of death.
