Two winter storms in less than a week ripped across Maryland, knocking down hundreds of trees and tree limbs. But before you start cleaning up, a warning - be careful who you hire.
In Maryland it is illegal to hire unlicensed tree contractors to remove fallen trees on your property.
Officials suggest homeowners check tree contractors' credentials before hiring them. Contractors are supposed to carry their licenses with them; you can also check the Maryland Department of Natural Resources website.
If you or anyone you know thinks they have been approached by an unlicensed tree contractor, contact the Maryland Forest Service.
