STATE — Maryland State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash last night in Washington County that left three people dead and injured a fourth.

The deceased victims are identified as Charles E. Canfield, 73, Carmen L. Canfield, 72, and Vonda L. Jamison, 82, all of whom were from Sharpsburg, Md. They were traveling together in a 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by Charles Canfield. All three were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The injured victim is identified as Robert L. Wilt, Sr., 78, of Hagerstown, Md. He was the driver and sole occupant of a 2015 Kia Rio. Wilt was injured and transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

Shortly before 7:00 p.m., troopers from the Hagerstown Barrack responded to the report of a traffic crash on Greencastle Pike (Rt. 63) south of Findley Mill Road. The Mitsubishi was overturned and the occupants had to be rescued from the vehicle by emergency rescue personnel.

The preliminary investigation indicates the Mitsubishi was southbound on Greencastle Pike, south of Findley Mill Road and the Kia was northbound, when Canfield attempted to make a U-turn in the travel portion of the road. The northbound Kia struck the left side of the turning Mitsubishi, causing it to overturn. The Kia then traveled off the roadway onto the grassy area on the right side of the road.

The crash closed the roadway for about five hours.

The investigation is continuing.
