HYATTSVILLE, Md. — Three Prince George's County Police officers were shot Sunday evening within seconds of their arrival to a home invasion call.

"They were ambushed," said Interim Police Chief Hector Velez.

It all happened around 6:35 p.m., when officers were called to the 1300 block of Capital View Terrace in Hyattsville.

The department says two of the officers were saved by their bullet proof vests, after one suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and the other to the back.

A third officer was reportedly shot in the foot.

All are in good spirits, and expected to survive.

Officers returned fire, but none of the suspects are believed to have been hit.

Two of them however, are in custody.
