Police have identified two of the three people who died when an SUV and dump truck collided in Charles County, Tuesday.
Maryland State Police say shortly before 3 p.m., a Lincoln SUV was traveling southbound on Penns Hill Road when it failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a dump truck driving eastbound on Route 234.
The Lincoln was occupied by five people, three of which were pronounced dead on scene. Two others were transported to a local hospital.
One passenger along with the driver of the dump truck were also transported to an area hospital.
The driver, Theresa Robinson, 44, and passenger, Arnold Griffin, 45, of the Lincoln, both from Waldorf, Md., were among the deceased. The third victim's identification is pending notification of family.
The two backseat passengers of the Lincoln, Taraca Graham, 27, and Dajauana Jenkins, 25, both of Washington, D.C. were flown by helicopter to Medstar Hospital where they are being treated for their injuries.
The dump truck occupants – driver William Demarr, 64, and passenger Melinda Baden, 64, both of Charlotte Hall, Md. – were taken to University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, Md.
Early investigation shows the dump truck was heading east on MD Route 234, approaching Penns Hill Road before 3 p.m., while the Lincoln was heading south on Penns Hill Road. Witnesses said the SUV failed to stop at the intersection's posted stop sign when the crash occurred.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is continuing to investigate the accident.
