Maryland State Trooper Dennis Moguche is recovering after being struck by a suspected drunk driver Sunday Nov. 20 on I-495.

Just after 7 p.m. Moguche was in his marked patrol car, sitting in the center median crossover on I-495, north of Route 5, when a Buick LaSabre driven by 43-year-old Christopher Howard, left the roadway and struck the trooper's car.

Moguche was taken to Fort Washington Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released.  He is the second state trooper struck in November while patrolling the Capital and the 15th hit so far this year.

Howard has been charged with driving while impaired, driving under the influence, reckless driving, negligent driving and failure to control speed to avoid a collision.  He was not injured in the crash and was released after posting a $3,500 bail.
