Detectives in St. Mary's County have charged 30-year-old Nathan Allen Bailey of Mechanicsville with first-degree assault, child abuse, and child neglect for injuring a 7-month-old baby.
Police responded to Children's Hospital in Washington, D.C. Monday for reports of an injured infant. An investigation revealed that the 7-month-old infant was examined for a head injury and flown to Children's Hospital for additional treatment. Doctors there determined the infant's injuries were due to battery.
The infant is currently in critical condition, according to police.
Police say Bailey ignored signs that the infant had been hurt, and dropped the baby off at a daycare center. The daycare provider sought medical assistance after seeing the baby's signs of injury.
An arrest warrant was obtained for Bailey. He was located, placed under arrest, and taken to the St. Mary's County Detention Center.
He's being held on a $1 million bond.
