Authorities resumed a search Saturday morning for a missing boater who went overboard Thursday evening near Sandy Point State Park.

Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candy Thomson said Steven Reynolds, 48, has not been seen since he fell overboard while anchoring his boat near the Sandy Point Lighthouse on New Year’s Eve.
Thomson said Reynolds and a female passenger set sail from a Key Highway marina around 3 p.m.  on December 31 for a weekend of sailing.

The pair headed south and stopped for the night near the lighthouse.  The female passenger called 911 when Reynolds fell overboard while taking in the sails an did not resurface. He was not wearing a life jacket, according to Thomson.

Natural Resources Police and Anne Arundel County fire boats are conducting the search. Thomson said at this point, the search is a recovery mission because it is unlikely anyone could survive the frigid 50 degree water of the bay without a life jacket for a long period of time.
