The head of security at a Maryland high school is facing sex offense and abuse charges after police say he had sex with a 17-year-old student.
Montgomery County police said in a statement Thursday that 57-year-old Mark Yantsos, the Richard Montgomery High School security team leader, is charged with sexual abuse of a minor and fourth-degree sex offense.
According to court documents, the student told detectives that Yantsos befriended her last year and bought her gifts, including a diamond necklace for Christmas, a ring for Valentine's Day and a cellphone. She told detectives that last month Yantsos drove her to a hotel, where they had sex. Police say they have inappropriate text messages Yantsos recently sent her.
In a letter to parents, school officials say Yantsos is on administrative leave.
