School barred from painting logo on town water tower

Posted

The dispute between Georgia Institute of Technology and Damascus High school in Montgomery County is over, for now. The college, which has a very similar trademarked logo, will not grant permission for Damascus' logo to be painted on the town's water tower.

The Swarmin' Hornets wanted their logo on the tower to show school spirit. Years ago Georgia Tech reached out to Damascus High about changing the color of the school's hornet from yellow and black to yellow and green, and they added a D, so the logos would look different.

Both sides agreed Damascus could use the changed logo at school and around town, but the water town wasn't part of the deal. Crews were supposed to pain the water tower Wednesday, but Georgia Tech's Vice President sent a letter saying the request wouldn't be granted.

The water company's spokesman says there's hope they'll eventually display the Damascus hornet down the road.
