Registered sex offender charged with trafficking and exploiting a minor

A man previously convicted of sex offenses was indicted today on charges related to sex trafficking and sexual exploitation of a minor. 

Rody L. Bowden, 39, of Prince George's County, was charged with sex trafficking of a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor, and transportation of child pornography. He was also charged with committed these offenses while being a registered sex offender.

According to the indictment, Bowden engaged in commercial sex acts with a 14-year-old in December of 2016. On Jan. 4, 2017, he recorded video of the victim performing oral sex, and on Sept. 4, 2017 he emailed a copy that video to another account he controlled.

Bowden's previous sex offender status stems from two convictions of third-degree sex offenses in Prince George's and Charles Counties. 

He faces a mandatory sentence of 10 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life for the sex trafficking and sexual exploitation of a minor charges, and a 15 to 40 year sentence for the child pornography charges. He also faces an additional 10 year sentence to run consecutively with other sentences for committing these offenses while a registered sex offender. 

Bowden is expected to appear in U.S. District Court in Baltimore on May 25.
