A puppy found in Washington County is fighting for its life after being spotted abandoned and emaciated in the woods behind a Target store in Hagerstown the Humane Society of Washington County said.

The six-to-seven-week old puppy the animal care group is calling "Hope," is currently in critical condition. When found, she was covered in fly eggs and barely moving.

The Human Society is offering a $400 reward for information leading to an arrest of those who may have abused or abandoned the puppy.

HSWC Field Officer Isaac Mowery found the puppy in the woods behind the store at 17213 Cole Road. Mowery rushed Hope to Mountain View Emergency Vet for treatment of starvation and parasites. She was then transferred to the HSWC's Veterinary Staff's care, where she received a blood transfusion.

Those who would like to donate to help pay for Hopes care, or to generally support the HSWC's efforts, can do so on their website, or by mailing donations to 13011 Maugansville Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Unfortunately Hope was not the only discarded dog discovered Thursday. A landlord found another canine left underneath a pile of trash in Kenilworth Park.
