Tragedy struck the Prince George's county community when a firefighter was shot and killed and another injured in Temple Hills.

John Ulmschneider was shot and killed while responding to a call at a home. Fellow firefighter Kevin Swain was seriously injured, but it looks like he could recover from his injuries. The alleged shooter has been released from police custody and hasn't been charged.

Prince George's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski says there are two key witnesses, Swain and the shooter's brother, that will help in the investigation. However, he said no charges have been filed due to an absence of facts and the need for more substantial forensic evidence.

"The facts that we want to place that charge aren't in our possession yet because of those interviews and that forensic evidence," Stawinski said. "So, this is going to take a little bit longer."

The funeral mass for firefighter Ulmschneider is Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's Parish in Hollywood, Maryland. There will be a private burial after the mass.
