Police in Cambridge are looking for a man who shot at them late Monday night.

At 11:30 p.m. two officers with the Cambridge Police Department were patrolling an area of the city where several cars had been broken into.

The officers were on Race Street and Goldsborough Avenue when they saw a man walking down the street. As they drove toward him, the officers say he reached ino his waistband. Before the officers could stop the car, the man took out a handgun and fired one shot at them.

One of the officer got out of the car and shot once at the man. The officer ran after him but didn't catch him.

Neither the man nor the police officers were injured in the shooting.

More officers and State Troopers were called out but they were unable to find the man.

Investigators recovered the man's gun and several other items he is believed to have tossed as he ran away.
