NTSB released a preliminary report outlining the cause of an Amtrak train crash that killed two CSX employees in Washington D.C. last month.
The report states that on June 27 around 11:18 p.m., two CSX workers were returning to their train locomotive after inspecting a defective railcar when they were hit from behind by Amtrak train 175 traveling about 73 mph.

The incident took place just north of Union Station and suspended train service from D.C. to Philadelphia.
No Amtrak passengers or crew were injured.
