Maryland is joining a sex-offender registry program, making it easier to share information with the public.

Our state is now the 17th one to join Offender Watch.

Law enforcement officials say the program makes it easier for authorities to share records.

People in Maryland will be able to register online through the program, to receive alerts and updates when sex offenders register within a specific radius of their home.

That service is free.
