Metro says a man was struck by a train and killed, prompting the closure of a stretch of the green line through the morning rush.

Green line service was suspended between the Branch Avenue and Southern Avenue stations for nearly six hours Wednesday morning.

Metro Transit Police tweeted that a train hit a man between the Naylor Road and Suitland stations early Wednesday and he later died. No passengers were aboard the train.

Police say it's not clear why the man was on the tracks.
