A man and woman are dead in an apparent murder-suicide in Charles County.
The Charles County Sheriff's Office says they were called at 7:27 a.m. Saturday to the home in the 3400 block of Amberton Court in White Plains.
The couples son called 911 to report a disturbance between his parents. He was with his two siblings who are under the age of 12 and they heard gunshots.
The children hid in the basement until police arrived and safely got them out of the house.
The children's parents were found dead in an upstairs bedroom.
Deputies say Calvin Carnathan, 33, shot his wife, Candace Carnathan,33, before shooting and killing himself.
The woman had taken out a temporary protective order against her husband on Friday. The order said Calvin Carnathan needed to leave the house and not contact his wife or children.
It is not clear what prompted the woman to obtain a protective order.
