A man was charged with second-degree assault and trespassing on school grounds resulting from an April 24 assault reported by a University of Maryland student.
The student contacted University Police to report an incident that occurred near the intersection of Campus Drive and Paint Branch Drive on the school's campus. The student said a man, later identified as Clarence Ingram Haywood, Jr., hit the student in the arm and threw a rock at him, which missed. Haywood then fled the area on foot.
Campus police barred him from accessing the school's grounds, eventually gaining a warrant for his arrest the following day.
