WALDORF, Md — A man and a dog were found dead on Saturday night following a fire at a home in Waldorf.
The blaze broke out around 11:05 p.m. at 7430 Bensville Road in Charles County. It took 45 firefighters from the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding agencies about 20 minutes to gain control of the flames.
In the process, crews found the deceased victims. The mans body will be transported to the Medical Examiner, where his exact cause of death will be determined.
Officials say the fire caused about $270,000.00 in total damages. Investigators with the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal believe the fire originated inside the living room; the cause however remains under investigation.
In the meantime, three other occupants have been displaced and are being assisted by family.
The home was equipped with smoke alarms, but it's not yet known if they were operable.
