Even though the 2016 Race for the Cure isn't for another five months, sponsors gathered at the Hunt Valley Inn for a breakfast to talk about this year's race.

Our own Lauren Cook hosted the event as members from Komen Maryland were discussing ways to make the race special and unique this year. Komen Maryland's Executive Director Mark Roeder hopes their goals can be met well in advance.

"We love the event," Roeder said. "It's an exciting event and it's an event that's full of celebration of our survivors. It's an event that's obviously for a very serious cause as well. Our goal this year is to raise $1.5 million and have 15,000 people join us on race day."

Earlier this year, Ocean City held it's fifth annual Race for the Cure. Over $175,000 were raised by the participants and donors alike. Since the events started in 1993, more than $37 million has been raised.

ABC2 is a proud partner of Komen Maryland's 2016 Race for the Cure. Race day in Hunt Valley is October 23.
