OAKLAND, Md. (AP) - Authorities say a hiker who went missing in Potomac State Forest in western Maryland was found after a six-hour search.

Media outlets report that Maryland Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candy Thomson says 66-year-old Jana Estep of Alexandria, Virginia, was picking fiddlehead ferns with a friend Saturday evening in the Walnut Bottom area of the park, but they became separated. The other hiker called 911.

A team of searchers and canine units formed a perimeter and switched on lights and sirens on their vehicles during the search. Thomson says before 1 a.m. Estep found her way to one vehicle. She was uninjured, but cold, wet and disoriented. Estep was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Thompson says Estep got lost in overgrown vegetation in the rugged area.
