HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say a highway worker is being treated for serious injuries after he was hit by a pickup truck on Interstate 70 just east of Hagerstown.

The agency says in a statement that the man was helping install guardrails when he was struck at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Police say a Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck was eastbound in a construction zone when the driver attempted to change lanes and pulled into the path of a Ford F350 pickup. The impact forced the Chevy into the median, where it overturned several times and hit the road worker.

Police say the worker is at the University of Maryland Medical Center's Shock Trauma unit in Baltimore. Police are withholding his name, pending notification of family.
