Google is no longer accepting state and local election ads in Maryland.

The announcement was effective Friday and made in response to Maryland adopting a new political advertising disclosure law mandating buyers and costs of ads be recorded.

A Google spokesperson tells WMAR 2 News, time is needed to examine the new law so the information now required can be provided, "Starting June 29th, we will stop accepting state and local election ads in Maryland, while wee assess the new election ads disclosure law and ensure our systems are built to comply with its new requirements."

There is no word on a time frame of if and when Google expects to once again accept election ads in Maryland.
