Giant Food announces Sargento brand shredded cheese recall

Giant Food announced a recall in certain Sargento shredded cheese products made by the company.

These products may be potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The products include Sargento Finely Shredded Cheddar Jack Cheese, 8 oz., UPC 4610040076 with a code date of F05JUL17. There have been no illnesses to date according to Giant Food. .

Consumption of food contaminate with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease.

Listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea, miscarriages, and infections to those with weakened immune systems.

Customers who have purchased these products should discard any unused portions and bring their purchase receipt to Giant for a full refund.
