A woman is dead and two young children are hurt after a dump truck slams into their vehicle in Caroline County.

Shortly before 7 a.m., Maryland State Police responded to the area of Rt. 16 and Williston Road for a  crash involving three vehicles.

An investigation revealed a garbage truck was traveling south on Harmony Road when the operator lost control, crossed the center line, and entered oncoming traffic. The garbage truck then collided with a trailer being towed by a Chevy pickup truck, which caused the garbage truck to strike a Honda Pilot head-on.

The driver of the Honda, identified as 27-year-old Brittany Plumer of Queen Anne was pronounced dead at the scene. Two juvenile passengers ages 3 and 8 were injured and transported to Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

Officials identified the garbage truck operator as Patrick Bateman, Sr. ,56, and the Chevy driver as Thomas Pinder, 58. Neither of the men sustained injuries.

Alcohol was reportedly not a contributing factor.

A GoFundMe has been established for the family of Brittany Plumer.
