Funeral for House Speaker Michael Busch to be held next week

Speaker of the House, Michael Busch will lie in state at the Maryland State House next Monday. The public can come pay their respects on that day from 1 p.m. - 7 p.m. He will also be there on Tuesday from 8 a.m. - 10 a.m.

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. that day at Saint John Neumann Catholic Church in Annapolis. His interment is private.

Busch passed away on Sunday afternoon at the age of 72, just one day before the end of the 2019 legislative session. Busch had been battling pneumonia.

Over the last few years, Busch dealt with significant health issues. Last September he had heart surgery and the year prior, he had a liver transplant.

The General Assembly adjourned at 11:30 p.m. Monday to remember the longest-serving speaker in the state's history.
