Officials say a Maryland sheriff's deputy has been found dead just hours after being charged with possession and distribution of marijuana.
Authorities say the Frederick County Sheriff's Office received a complaint Saturday regarding possible criminal conduct by a deputy.
An investigation revealed that 29-year-old Deputy Vincent Jones had confiscated marijuana from a traffic stop, then gave some of it to another individual with whom he was attempting to foster a personal relationship. That person contacted authorities.
Jones was arrested early Monday and released on $10,000 bond.
Around midday Monday, two representatives of the sheriff's office went to Jones residence to serve an official termination notice. While there, they heard a loud noise from upstairs, where Jones was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Frederick City police are investigating.
