UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) - A former elementary school janitor has pleaded guilty to stealing 30 laptop computers from the school and selling them online.
The Prince George's County State's Attorney's Office said in an email that 34-year-old Kenneth Foster of Charlotte, North Carolina, was sentenced to a year in prison Thursday in Circuit Court. Foster was also ordered to pay $18,000 in restitution.
Prosecutors say Foster was a janitor at Vansville Elementary School in Beltsville in January 2014, when the laptops, valued at about $30,000, were delivered. Authorities say when school officials went to get the laptops from storage in March 2014, they were missing.
Investigators say by then, Foster had taken a job in a school district in North Carolina. He was indicted on the Maryland thefts in October 2015.
