ASSATEAGUE ISLAND, Md. (WMAR) - Assateague Island National Seashore will start charging a $5 fee for visitors.
Starting May 1st, everyone going into the park will have to pay $5. Right now, people who are on foot or are riding bicycles can get into the park for free.
The fee will increase eventually to $10 and on January 1st, 2020 it will be $15. Vehicle and motorcycle fees will increase on that date as well.
Officials did say that a family traveling together will not have to pay more than the vehicle fee.
The extra money will go toward improving infrastructure and park maintenance, according to the National Park Service.
