Cancer patients, survivors and advocates met with legislators Wednesday on critical cancer issues, including a call for higher taxes on cigarettes and tobacco products.

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network wants the surcharge on all tobacco products raised by at least $1.

"We want to make sure that this year through the general assembly that our smoke-free indoor air law stays whole," Bonita Pennino of Cancer Action Network said. "We have the strongest smoke-free indoor air law in the nation where smoking is not allowed in restaurants, bars, or now Maryland casinos."
