507 COVID-19 cases including 7 deaths reported in Md. correctional facilities

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Maryland Department of Corrections on Monday released the latest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the system.

So far seven inmates have died and 500 others have tested positive in 21 different correctional facilities, including 187 inmates, 305 correctional officers, and 15 other staff members.

According to the department, 170 of the correctional officers, 51 inmates, and eight other staff members have recovered.

Three of the inmates who died were in their 60s, and had serious underlying medical conditions and were hospitalized before their deaths.

Two of the inmates were assigned to the Jessup Correctional Institution. The other two were out of the Dorsey Run Correctional Facility in Jessup and Roxbury Correctional Institution in Hagerstown.

Officials haven't released their names, citing privacy laws.
