Copy of 13-year-old girl killed in Frederick County accident

A 13-year-old girl was killed in a head-on collision in Frederick County, Tuesday evening.

Maryland State Police responded to a crash at roughly 5:30 p.m. on Myersville Road in Middleton, Md., where a 2014 Volkswagen with four occupants traveling southbound crossed the double-yellow dividing line and collided head-on with a 2013 Ford Transit van heading north.

A 13-year-old girl traveling in the back seat of the Volkswagen was killed in the accident. She was declared dead on the scene.  

The car she was in was driven by Joshua Brant Swope, 35, with passenger Ronald Lee Swope, 72, both of Washington County, and had a 2-year-old boy riding in the back seat. All three were taken to Meritus Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The driver of the Ford, 31-year-old Christopher Michael Shipley, of Frederick County, was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for his injuries. 

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is investigating the accident and will present their findings to the Frederick County Office of the State's Attorney.
