A man has died and three others are injured after a head-on collision involving an ATV on Monday afternoon.

Investigators determined that both speed and failing to obey a traffic device led to the fatal accident.

Officers arrived on the scene around 2:45 p.m. According to the investigation, an ATV had crossed into the wrong lane and struck a 2014 Kia Soul head-on. The driver of the ATV was Kenneth Niblett, 29, who sustained critical injuries, while passenger Chris Munday, 21, died at the scene.

The driver of the Kia, Patricia Liversage, 45, and her 12-year-old son were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Frederick County police are handling the investigation and ask anyone with information to call DFC at 301- 600-3743 or Sheriff's Office Tip Hotline at 301-600-4141.
