SYKESVILLE, Md. — A Howard County construction project to replace a damaged retaining wall in Sykesville is expected to begin on or around August 19.

The project, which is about 0.4 miles north of 560 River Road, will include the stabilization of the wall and some drainage improvements. The wall was originally damaged by flooding that happened on May 27, 2018.

If weather permits, the project is expected to be completed by late September.

However, during the project, the roadway from the south end of River Road to the project site will be closed to traffic.

Motorists will be able to follow a clearly marked detour using MD 32 (Sykesville Road) and MD 851 (West Friendship Road) to reach the north end of River Road. Signs will be posted to alert motorists of the road closure and the detour.
