Second person passes away following car crash on I-95 in Laurel

LAUREL, Md. — Howard County Police say an additional person has died following a deadly car crash that happened on I-95 in Laurel Thursday afternoon.

Police say 24-year-old Malik Emmanuel Britton passed away overnight at the hospital. Britton was the passenger in the vehicle that drove into southbound traffic on I-95 in Laurel before it was hit by a tractor trailer.

Officers were called for drug activity in the vehicle in the 9100 block of All Saints Road around 2:17 p.m. At the scene officers observed the driver of the suspect vehicle suddenly accelerate and flee from the scene. They then tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver drove onto northbound I-95 at Route 216.

An investigation revealed that the driver tried to make an illegal u-turn into the southbound lane of I-95 at a high rate of speed when he lost control and was struck by the tractor trailer.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was pronounced dead shortly after the incident.
