Police are searching for a 28-year-old from New Jersey after he didn't return home or to work after a trip to Maryland.
Howard County police say David Gipson Smith was last seen in the Woodbine Area on Aug. 6. He came to Maryland to visit a friend on Aug. 5.
Smith's family contacted police on Aug. 12, saying he had not returned from his trip. The family told police it was unusual for Smith to be out of contact for an extended period of time and they were concerned for his welfare. They told police they believe a friend dropped him off in the general area of the 2000 block of Woodbine Road on Aug. 6.
Police have conducted an initial search in the Woodbine area. They've conducted land and air searched in surrounding woods and a nearby pond. Officers have canvassed the surrounding area and spoken with local residents. Police also searched area hospitals and shelters.
There have been no sightings of Smith or indications of his whereabouts. Investigators have interviewed his friends and family and confirmed that no one has been in contact with him.
The duration of his absence concerns police. Smith is described as a white male, 6 ft. 4 in., weighing 230 pounds.
