COLUMBIA, Md. — A Howard County Police officer was hospitalized following a rollover crash in Columbia on Thursday afternoon.

The officer's departmental vehicle reportedly rolled over along US-29 near MD-175 around 2:10pm.

According to Howard County Police, the officer lost control of the vehicle while trying to evade another vehicle that had switched lanes in front of it.

Consequently, the police vehicle entered the median and rolled over. The officer was later taken to Shock Trauma as a precautionary measure.

Authorities say the officer was not attempting a traffic stop and didn't have emergency lights initiated. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The officer was later released from the hospital Thursday afternoon.
