COLUMBIA, Md. (WMAR) — A Howard County Police officer gave one little girl a memory that's sure to last a lifetime.

Over the weekend, Officer Shams met three-year-old Layne and her family outside Columbia Mall.

The family was about to leave, when Layne's dad noticed a police car parked next to them.

He pointed it out to his daughter, who became very excited and wanted to say hello to the officer.

Layne then began a long conversation with Shams, which included Layne getting the opportunity to turn the lights and sirens on inside the police car.

Nearly a week after meeting Shams, Layne's parents say she still talks about their meeting, especially when Layne is "responding to calls" in her own Power Wheels police car she has at home.

Layne's parents say they're very happy their daughter had the chance to meet a strong female role model like Officer Shams.
