Women are making history in Howard County.
Earlier this week, Lisa Myers was named the first woman to lead the county police department. On Thursday, Christine Uhlhorn became the first woman to lead the county fire department.
Uhlhorn has been with the department for nearly 30 years. She is a third-generation firefighter, who rose through the ranks, and was promoted to assistant chief in 2016.
"I love the fire service. I've loved the fire service every since I was a little girl," Uhlhorn said at a special pinning ceremony. "Moving up the ranks and being about to impact it in more positive ways is just beyond anything that I ever dreamed about and I'm really excited."
County Executive Calvin Ball said Uhlhorn has dedicated her life to protecting the people of Howard County and she will seize every opportunity to make Howard County the best place for everyone.
