A fatal crash in Ellicott City leaves a 28-year-old man dead.

Howard County Police say they were notified of a single-vehicle crash around 11:08 p.m. Saturday.

Police say the driver of a Nissan Altima was driving northbound on Route 29 when it left the roadway near the eastbound Route 40 ramp. After leaving the ramp the car struck a tree and light pole causing the driver to be ejected from the vehicle.

The victim, Charles Honaker, was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma where he was pronounced dead.

Investigating officers believe excessive speed was a factor in the crash.

Police say the light pole in this incident fell onto the roadway causing a minor crash between two additional vehicles. There were no injuries reported in the crash.
