Columbia, Md. residents can earn $25 per appliance when dropping off A/C units and dehumidifiers during Baltimore Gas and Electric's recycling event Saturday.
Each person can drop off up to two appliances between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Columbia Athletic Club at 5435 Beaverkill Road. The event is rain or shine, and company representatives will be there to help unload the units directly from people's vehicles. A check for $25 will come in the mail four to six weeks later.
The BGE Smart Energy Savers program also offers $50 for recycling old working refrigerators and freezers. Customers can contact the company directly to schedule a pick up, and BGE will haul away the old appliances for no cost, up to two such units per household. Air conditioners and dehumidifiers can also be picked up at the same time.
