ELLICOTT CITY, Md. — A BGE project to relocate a gas main in the 8600 block of Main Street in Ellicott City, is expected to begin on or about Wednesday, July 15.

The project will involve the installation of a new gas main, starting in the 8600 block of Main Street and heading east. This relocation work is necessary to accommodate additional utility work and to make way for the future construction of the 8600 Main Street Culvert, which is part of the County’s Ellicott City's Safe & Sound Plan.

The total project is expected to take three to four weeks to complete.

"We continue making forward progress on the projects needed to mitigate future flooding in Ellicott City," said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball.

Signs and flags will be in place to direct traffic, as needed. Temporary lane closures should be expected during construction hours, which are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone.
