Basement fire displaces 5 people, 1 dog in Marriottsville

MARRIOTTSVILLE, Md. — Howard County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a fire Thursday morning in Marriottsville.

The fire department said the blaze occurred in the basement of a residence in the 11000 block of Willow Green Way. All of the home's occupants were able to escape safely. In total, five people and a dog are displaced by the fire. The Red Cross is providing assistance in finding temporary shelter for those displaced.

Firefighters controlled the flames quickly, the fire department said, as units from the Baltimore County Fire Department and the Sykesville Fire Department also responded to the scene.

The origin of the fire has yet to be determined and is being investigated by the Office of the State Fire Marshall. A portion Marriottsville Road was closed as units dealt with the fire.
