MARRIOTTSVILLE, Md. — Howard County Police are investigating a deadly crash that claimed the life of a woman in Marriottsville on Tuesday evening.
Police say a 2008 Nissan Altima was driving south on Marriottsville Road when in an attempt to turn left on Old Frederick Road, it was struck by a 2017 Hyundai Sante Fe.
Officials say the woman in the Nissan, later identified as 60-year-old Cheryl Ann Atkas, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Hyundai and their passenger were not injured as a result of the crash. Police say a juvenile passenger from the Hyundai was taken to Howard County General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the Nissan failed to yield right-of-way to the Hyundai.
