HOWARD COUNTY, Md. — The United States Geological Survey confirmed Monday that an earthquake occurred in the Columbia and Savage area.

Officials say it was a 2.5 magnitude earthquake, with no reports of damage or injuries at this current moment.

It occurred around 5 p.m. Monday evening.

Howard County officials say police and fire are aware of the situation and are currently surveying for any potential damage.

Residents are asked to only call 911 in the event of an emergency.
