Aberdeen police are looking for two men they say stole cash and other property as part of a church donation scam.

On two separate occasions, the men told women in the Walmart parking lot that they were looking for a local African church and wanted to make a donation, police said.

The men offered to donate money to the women's church if the women would match the donation with their own money. The women then drove the two men to an ATM and withdrew cash.

The men put both their money and the women's money in a handkerchief for a blessing then gave the handkerchief to the women and left.

When the women looked in the handkerchief, the found shredded newspaper instead of the money. Both women also reported items missing from their cars.

One of the suspects was wearing a tan dress shirt and jeans, while the other was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and jeans. One of the men also spoke with an African accent, according to police.

Anyone with information can to call Det. Tomlinson with Aberdeen Police, 410-272-2121.
